Binghamton Figure Skating Club COVID-19 Update - 08/28/2020

As of 08/28/2020, the SUNY Broome Ice Center has delayed reopening this fall due to the pandemic; a reopening date has not been provided. This means that Club Ice and Learn to Skate (LTS) are delayed as well. We hope the delay will not be long, and we will communicate to you any changes as soon as we receive them. Due to the pandemic closing the ice center in March 2020, we had to cut short the last Learn to Skate Session, and impacted skaters will still receive a credit when LTS resumes. Also, we hope to hold the cancelled Spring Exhibition in March 2021. More information to come.

Learn to Skate

Learn to Skate USA has 8 levels with approximately 5 skills per level. Classes, which are organized by age and ability, are open to children and adults.

The Learn to Skate USA program offers group classes for students age 4 and older, including adults of all ages. Classes include a half an hour of instruction and a half an hour of ice time to practice skills learned in class. Classes typically range from 5 to 8 students.

The Learn to Skate USA program offers:

  • One lesson per week in groups of 6-week sessions. Throughout the season we plan to have four Saturday sessions and four Sunday sessions. From January - March there will also be two Tuesday evening sessions (see schedule below).

  • 8 levels with approximately 5 skills per level

  • Classes organized by age and ability (student placement will occur during the first class)

  • Instruction of beginning levels/basic techniques, including backward skating, crossovers, edges, turns, and beginning spins and jumps

  • Free rental of rink skates (as available)

Students will advance to higher levels as they demonstrate proficiency of all skills in a level. Upon completion of each level, a badge may be purchased for $1 at the registration table.
